Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received the delegation headed by EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger.
The head of state expressed his confidence in continuation of productive cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU in energy sphere. Speaking about good cooperation practice of our country with EU, President Aliyev noted the importance of conducting discussions over the works to be done for the establishment of lasting partnership in energy sphere. Touching upon the energy supply of Europe, the head of state noted that there was good potential for further extension the cooperation in this sphere by taking into account the energy sources, infrastructure and production level of Azerbaijan. Oettinger said that EU had relations with Azerbaijan not only in energy sphere, but also in all other spheres and close cooperation in power engineering would be continued in future. They exchanged views on cooperation perspectives in the direction of energy supply of Europe.
Turkmen energy projects are significant, EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said during a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Accoding to the Turkmen government, he also expressed an interest in implementing new joint projects. Ottinger attended the International Gas Congress in Ashgabat.
"Turkmenistan has enormous hydrocarbon reserves and is ready to consider proposals to expand the Turkmen export routes to world markets," Berdimuhamedov said.
Views were also exchanged on how to enhance cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU to ensure peace and global security.
The sides stressed the importance of an energy memorandum signed between Turkmenistan and the EU in May 2008. Ottinger said the agreement is vital due to the country's political stability, huge resources, economic potential and reputation as a reliable partner.
"Major European world famous companies are interested in establishing a full and mutually beneficial partnership with Turkmenistan," Ottinger said.
