Turkmenistan prepares program of events on Energy Charter

Turkmenistan’s presidency at the Energy Charter Conference will serve for development of long-term models of cooperation.

The program has been prepared on international events to be held in Ashgabat, Brussels, New York, Beijing, Hong Kong and Tehran. Tens of meetings of the Energy Charter Secretariat are planned to be held in Belgium’s capital.

Turkmenistan’s presidency at the Energy Charter Conference in 2017 will make a contribution to the development of effective long-term models for international cooperation in the energy sector, based on a balance of interests of all parties involved, said the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to the report.

Particular attention will be paid to the following areas: processing of raw hydrocarbon materials to produce finished products and to export them; use of renewable energy sources; safe transit of energy resources; increasing energy efficiency and energy saving, as well as reducing impacts of energy use on environment.

Moreover, the agenda will also include issues on stimulating investments in order to meet the increasing global demand for energy and improving investment climate in member countries of the Energy Charter; on attracting new countries to the Charter membership.

Turkmenistan is one of rich countries for its natural gas resources. According to BP, the country’s recoverable reserves are estimated at 17.5 trillion cubic meters of gas or nine percent of total global reserves, which puts Turkmenistan on the fourth position in this field after Iran, Russia and Qatar.
