President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with President of Croatia Ivo Josipović, who arrived in Vilnius on a working visit.
In the meeting, the two Presidents discussed bilateral relations, Lithuanian-Croatian cooperation within international organizations, and the progress of negotiations concerning Croatia's accession to the EU.
The President of Lithuania underlined efficient bilateral partnership within international organizations was very important for both of the states.
"Croatia supported us for a non-permanent seat to the UN Security Council for the period of 2014-2015. Lithuania supports Croatia's membership of the European Union. And we strongly believe Croatia will continue its reform efforts and will soon complete all negotiation chapters," President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.
According to the President, Lithuania is already actively sharing its own experience of the accession process, with Lithuanian and Croatian institutions already working together as demonstrated by the newest example of such cooperation - a recently approved twinning project of ministries of finance on the effective management of the EU Cohesion funds.
The President gave a positive assessment of Croatia's efforts to fight against corruption with the aim to improve business climate for foreign investment in the country. According to the President, this will facilitate the development of Lithuanian-Croatian bilateral economic relations.
The Presidents of Lithuania and Croatia also discussed the development of energy projects and agreed that safety of nuclear energy was a shared responsibility of the international community.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė also asked the Croatian President to pass an invitation to Croatia's Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor to attend a high-level conference of women world leaders, to be held on 30 June in Vilnius.
