FM: Turkey wants Armenian-Azerbaijani relations to normalise

Ankara's desire is to normalise relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted by the Turkish news agency Ikhlas as saying.

"One of Ankara's desires and goals are to normalize the Armenian- Azerbaijani relations," Davutoglu said.

According to Davutoglu, Ankara is ready to do everything possible to normalise relations between the two countries and to restore stability in the South Caucasus.

Davutoglu also stressed that one of Turkey's objectives is to regularise relations between Ankara and Yerevan.

Whilst speaking about the invitation received to participate at the meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Council, to be held in Yerevan on December 12, Davutoglu also stressed that the invitation is of a protocol nature.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister's advisor Osman Sert said that Ahmet Davutoglu's visit to Yerevan is under question.

The U.S. has very successful economic cooperation with Turkey and would like to share this experience with Azerbaijan, trade adviser at the U.S. embassy in Turkey Michael Lally said at the Azerbaijan- American business forum in Baku on Monday.

"Around 1,300 companies with American capital are operating in Turkey," Lally said. "Their activity covers both the energy and non-oil sectors, as well as many other areas. The trade turnover between our countries reached record highs twice - in 2011 and 2012. The U.S. is interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan based on its success with Turkey."

While thanking the organizers of the forum, Lally invited Azerbaijani businessmen to make a return visit to Turkey.

"We invite companies and entrepreneurs from Azerbaijan to visit Turkey in May 2014, where they will meet with representatives of 15-20 U.S. companies operating in this country, establish contacts and discuss cooperation prospects."

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the U.S amounted to about $1.19 billion in January- October 2013.

Azerbaijani products worth $311.52 million were exported to the U.S during the reporting period, while imports from the U.S. to Azerbaijan amounted to about $877.17 million.
