Ashgabat hosts water coordination forum of Central Asia

Ashgabat hosted the next meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) of Central Asia.

The ICWC is the body of five governments, which entrusted direct functions of water resources management and development and maintenance of sustainable natural and hydro ecological processes on transboundary water resources to the ministries (State Committees, Departments) of water resources.

The forum was attended by heads and experts of ministries of the region’s countries, as well as by representatives of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

In particular, results of the vegetation period of 2016, as well as withdrawal limits and predictive mode of reservoir cascades for 2017 in the Syrdarya and Amudarya rivers that affect water availability for irrigated areas were discussed during the meeting.
