Stability and development of the entire Central Asian region depends upon positions of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev declared at the meeting with President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on November 25, reports Akorda press service.
“Kazakhstan supports Uzbekistan in all its endeavors. We intend to strengthen friendship between two countries, to expand trade, to develop relations, including in internal security and other areas. Our countries closely monitor the talks, since stability and development of the entire region depends upon positions and mutual work of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,” Nazarbayev stated.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are historically and culturally close countries, he added.
The President of Uzbekistan in turn underlined rapidly changing situation in the world.
"In such conditions each country tries to find support, to update its plans and to rely upon close neighbors. Kazakhstan is the closest country, closest people for us, who were always next to us in difficult and good times. We always sought assistance from each other. I would like to express big respect to the people of Kazakhstan who steadily move along prosperity path. We need to meet more often to identify further prospects,” President Karimov said.
Two leaders have discussed the progress of implementation of the agreements reached during visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Uzbekistan in June 2013 during restricted attendance talks.
They also considered priority areas of bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, hydropower, cultural, humanitarian spheres. The two leaders also discussed key aspects of regional security, relevant international issues.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived with official visit to Astana on November 24.
