RUSSIAN MILITARY ACTIVITY AT THE BORDER OF UKRAINE RISING

Last week, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen paid an official visit Britain. As noted in the materials posted on the organization's website, during this visit, Rasmussen met with Prime Minister David Cameron and Foreign Minister William Hague and Defence Secretary Philip Hammond. Head of the North Atlantic Alliance also made sharp statements against Russia.

Primarily, Rasmussen confirmed media reports indicating accumulation of Russian troops from the Ukrainian border and the flow of volunteers across the Russian-Ukrainian border, as well as throwing of individual pieces of military equipment. Chapter alliance called this fact "regrettable step backwards" in the policy of the Russian authorities, carried out under the Ukrainian crisis, reports Reuters. Western intelligence has detected a week ago, only 1,000 Russian servicemen near the Ukrainian borders. If the troops are deployed to control the border and stop the flow of weapons and fighters, this will be a positive step, said Rasmussen. "But it's not like what we are seeing," - he said. "Most of the Russian troops had moved away from the border with Ukraine in early June, there remained about 1000 people. In recent days, we see that several compounds numbering about five thousand people again carried the movement near the Ukrainian border, "- said the radio station" Echo of Moscow "NATO military officer Jay Dzhanson.

Rasmussen stressed that any intervention on the part of Russia to the Ukrainian crisis could lead to the introduction of more stringent international sanctions against Moscow, according to CNN. Secretary General noted that the new restrictive measures against Russia will have very negative consequences for the Russian economy. At the same time, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said in his speech once again ruled out the possibility of participation of the alliance "in the defense of Ukraine." "Ukraine is not a country - a member of NATO, but we will help her advice," - he said.

In fact the Kremlin Russian troops return to Ukrainian border denied. This was stated by RBC president's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, stressing that the President did not give any guidance. He noted that because of the regularly occurring false rumors "they stopped to read the social network." Asked about the possibility of dialogue with the Ukrainian troops Peskov said, "Putin told a Poroshenko", referring to the two telephone conversations at night Russian leader with his Ukrainian counterpart.

On the eve of the anonymous sources it became known that the fact that the transportation of troops allegedly confirmed in a closed session of the State Duma Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Sources in the Defense Ministry told journalists that troops designated in May from the border, it was decided to return because of the aggravation of the situation - in connection with the attacks on the Russian embassy in Ukrainian cities, unfulfilled promises Poroshenko stop the violence in the east of the country and the provocations of the Ukrainian military in the border. On the number of troops arrived to the border, the Defense Ministry did not spread, making it clear that we are talking about several thousand people. On Thursday, a source in the Defense Ministry, RBC said that at this time to not only shrink the border army units and military equipment, but also benzozapravschike, field hospital, engineering and construction machinery. From this we can conclude that the Defense Ministry suggests that the operation near the border with Ukraine can be quite lengthy.

Meanwhile, in Russia's address sounded and another charge: According to NATO Secretary General, Russian intelligence services cooperate and secretly funded by the European environmental non-governmental organizations that have been campaigning against shale gas. As the Financial Times, he referred to the information received from allied countries. According to him, Russian environmentalists such activity is beneficial to maintain Europe's dependence on Russian gas. NATO believes that Russia is pursuing a massive disinformation campaign on many topics, including Energy, told "Vedomosti" a source in the alliance on condition of anonymity. The publication also recalls that some experts have suggested that one of the objectives pursued by Russia, fueling separatism in eastern Ukraine - it interfere with the development of shale deposits in these regions. Shell is working on two projects for exploration of unconventional gas in eastern Ukraine: under CD with "Ukrgazvydobuvannya" (Kharkiv region) and PSA Hughes area (Kharkiv and Donetsk region). At the moment, the company has drilled two exploration wells in the Kharkiv region (within a DM "Ukrgazvydobuvannya") evaluates the basic state of the environment on Hughes area.

It seems the situation in relations between Russia and the West returns to the state before the presidential elections in Ukraine, when one after the other Western countries imposed sanctions, requiring the adoption of Moscow drastic measures to de-escalate the situation in the east of Ukraine. Russian military activity near the border with the neighboring state is growing, expanding stream of volunteers, there is evidence of crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border as separate units of military equipment. The previous policy of Moscow, expressed in anticipation of dialogue between Kiev and eastern elites failed: Poroshenko is not going to Moscow and about to enter into dialogue with the separatists. All this means that the situation has gone on a new circle, and soon we can expect a new exacerbation and new sanctions.
