The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation H.E. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu paid a farewell visit to Turkey on 16-17 December 2013.
In his last visit to Turkey in his capacity as the Secretary General of the OIC, Ihsanoglu was received by President H.E. Mr. Abdullah Gul in his office and had a working lunch where both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and reviewed the activities and achievements of the OIC during his nine years of tenure. Ihsanoglu expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Government and people of Turkey for extending their valuable support to him and the OIC during and after his election as the Secretary General of the OIC.
In Ankara, the Secretary General was also received by the Speaker of Parliament H.E. Mr. Cemil Cicek who commended Ihsanoglu for his successful reform work and achievements within the OIC and thanked him for increasing the profile of the OIC in the international fora.
In his meeting with Minister of Development H.E. Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz, both sides reviewed the progress in the implementation of programmes developed under the OIC Standing Committee on Commerce and Trade Cooperation (COMCEC). Minister Yilmaz praised the Secretary General for his guidance and contributions to activities of the COMCEC.
Finally, the Secretary General was received by Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Konya where both sides exchanged views on the various pressing issues and developments in the Muslim world. Additionally, the Secretary General made a review of the progress achieved in the implementation of the various OIC programmes during his service including the Ten-Year Programme along with the OIC endeavours and activities in different domains.
Ihsanoglu had a separate meeting with Foreign Minister H,E, Prof. Ahmet Davutoglu who praised the Secretary General for his dedication and commitment towards the OIC and the advancement of Islamic world. They also exchanged views on the issues occupying the agenda of the OIC, including the situation in the Middle East and Northern Africa. On his part, Ihsanoglu thanked the Foreign Ministry for supporting his work in the General Secretariat including through secondment of able diplomats to the OIC.
