NATO Deputy Secretary General discusses risk reduction and military transparency at OSCE conference

NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow outlined key steps needed to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic security system in a speech at the OSCE Security Days conference in Vienna on Monday (3 October 2015). Participating in a panel discussion on ‘Preventing and Managing Close Military Encounters in Times of Crisis’, Ambassador Vershbow stressed the importance of modernising the Vienna Document on military transparency.

Bratislava welcomes the defence ministers of EU Member States for talks on joint steps in the field of defence policy

Slovak Minister for Defence Peter Gajdoš welcomed his counterparts, the defence ministers of the other EU Member States, to the capital. At the informal meeting of the EU defence ministers, led by the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, the ministers discussed the implementation of the Global Strategy for the European Union's Foreign and Security Policy (EUGS) and strengthening co-operation with NATO. They also talked about the EU operations in the Sahel region and Libya with a view to resolving the root causes of illegal migration.

NATO Secretary General welcomes discussion on strengthening European defence


 NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with EU Defence Ministers in Bratislava on Tuesday (27 September 2016) to discuss stronger cooperation between the European Union and NATO, and shared security challenges. He stressed the importance of implementing the Joint NATO-EU Declaration, signed in the margins of the Warsaw Summit, which gives new substance to the partnership between NATO and the EU.
