Madani Visits Central Asia and Addresses the First OIC Forum on Investment in the Region

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, (OIC), Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani will pay his first two official visits to OIC Member States in the Central Asia: the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan, starting on Sunday, 25 October 2014, and aiming to foster relations between the OIC and countries of this region. 

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Slovenia

General Knud Bartels, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visited Ljubljana, Slovenia on the 23rd October 2014. The Chairman met with the President of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Janko Veber, the Chief of General Staff, Brigadier General Andrej Osterman and members of the Slovenian Parliament’s Defence Committee. Among the main subjects discussed were NATO’s current security challenges, the implementation of the Readiness Action Plan, defence spending and Slovenia’s contribution to NATO’s defence initiatives, in addition to the outcomes of the recent meeting of the Military Committee Chiefs of Defence in Vilnius.

The Similarities Between Germany and China

I returned last weekend from a monthlong trip to both East Asia and Europe. I discovered three things: First, the Europeans were obsessed with Germany and concerned about Russia. Second, the Asians were obsessed with China and concerned about Japan. Third, visiting seven countries from the Pacific to the Atlantic in 29 days brings you to a unique state of consciousness, in which the only color is gray and knowing the number of your hotel room in your current city, as opposed to the one two cities ago, is an achievement.

The Parliament of Abkhazia received the Russian draft treaty of alliance and integration experts led heated discussions about what the consequences might be its implementation. But if Russia this story is not a primary, then the Abkhaz elite and public relations with the state-holder - it is a matter of fundamental importance. This explains the high degree of emotion, which demonstrated a discussion about the potential costs and gains from the new contract within Abkhazia. 

Regional security – common interest of Baltic and Nordic countries

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Sweden's new Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. During a working lunch, the President and the Prime Minister discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Sweden, security situation in the region, implementation of common energy projects, and cooperation in international organizations. This visit to the Baltic States and Finland is the first foreign visit of the new Swedish Prime Minister.
