TBILISI HOPES TO ACCELERATE THE PROCESS OF JOINING NATO

video

By Arthur Dunn

The prospect of full membership of Georgia in NATO remains foreign policy goal of Tbilisi. Any significant change in the foreign policy situation against the backdrop of worsening relations between Russia and NATO countries can reintroduce this issue in a real, practical plane. United States continue to view the country as a key strategic partner not only in the South Caucasus region, taking into account the energy corridor from the Caspian Sea to the West, and the transit of military cargo from Afghanistan. Military-strategic importance of Georgia currently has increased and as a country, which lies along the southern perimeter, Caucasian borders of Russia.

TRANSATLANTIC PARTNERSHIP IN POST-SOVIET SPACE

Washington is interested  in activation the EU policy in the post-Soviet space. This approach is dictated primarily by pragmatic considerations, as determined by an overstraining of the United States, and the geographical proximity of the EU to the countries of the CIS. It allows Washington to more closely monitor and implement the transatlantic paradigm in the context of its policy towards the countries of the CIS. It seems that Washington will develop a "road map" designed to promote the gradual policy in the desired region of the former Soviet Union, which will be implemented by Brussels.

Opinion: NATO promises to Russia? Which promises?

Alea iacta est. NATO has agreed on the formation of a special ‘spearhead force’ (officially: Very High Readiness Joint Task Force) that, if necessary, will offer the eastern member states (additional) protection against Russia’s imperialist whims. After twenty years of peace keeping operations and crisis management on the Balkans and in exotic places further away, the alliance will refocus on its original task, as anchored in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty: collective defence.

ALIEV WAITING FOR HIS TERM

By Alina Kantor

Austria continues hearings on the case of former Kazakh official Rakhat Aliyev, who on September 12 this year refused to participate in the meeting in which was to be considered the legality of his arrest. Thus, the preliminary conclusion is automatically extended for another two months. This was confirmed by an official representative of the land Criminal Court of Vienna. According to Austrian law Aliyev, if convicted, faces a sentence of 20 years in prison to life imprisonment. As you know, Vienna is its own investigation on charges of murdering two Aliyev bankers in Almaty. And also suspects him of money laundering.
